Harlem, NY.
This just feels like a Thronely picture to me.
I’m ashamed to say I never got this Woman’s name but I captured this candid during a Dr. Miracle’s “Curlversation” on Perceptions of Natural Hair at Ginny’s Supper Club Uptown.

I won’t sit here and act like I’m one of the biggest Kendrick Lamar fans, ‘cause I’m not.  But every record, freestyle, I have heard from this Brother, he’s murdered.  I love the fact that he’s one of the one rappers that stays to the craft…and no Commercial BS.  Storytelling, and pure lyrics.  Shouts to son for that.  He’s definitely one of the best right now.
And shouts to Ghazer Beats for this dope ass photo he took at his NYC Concert last night.

“Toast to the underground kings”

You do understand, that these nights were only speed bumps.  Not those that you slowdown on, but the ones Sonic used to speed up.  The reality is, your group and yours’ first show, backstage, surrounded by strangers and Andre on ice, and plastic glasses and gold painted rims, and behind you the bucket of cubes sweats, as you should.
You’ve thought about forgetting rhymes, raps, lyrics, hooks, gestures, and how you’ll look on stage in front of everyone.  You’ve performed poems before, solo, but this is different.  This takes more.
Then thought pauses and switches Blu-Ray’s—The ride to the spot.  Coming a long way—those nights, up til the Sun shown it’s tangerine face while whisphering on a mesh screen that collected ya’lls breath.  The re-takes and do-overs.  The doubling and ad-libbing.  Giving mics asswhippings.  Now you’re glass-sipping, bout to head on stage, and wait for the women to give madd rhythm.
The photographer sat in his backwards snapback, holding his breath in one hand and Canon in the other, shooting a BK-Born rapper catching beatless melodies with Biggie’s ghost coming down the steps, and his Brother, the triumphant Leo and singer of the group laxing his eyes under dark tortoise-shell shades in this shaded backstage.
Soon I’ll be saying I remember that day.  When I was with my brothers, sipping Andre, and although it wasn’t the best champagne, your Brothers made it taste like so.
Shouts out to GhazerBeats, even though it goes without saying, for this classic of a graphic.

For whatever Reason, this woman, Taneish Hamilton, and I, have great photo chemistry…—This was taken on Steffon Fynes and I’s, Open Mic Night at the NuYoRican Poets Cafe.

14th Street Btw. 5th and 6th Avenues.

They liked the former, I like the latter.  Shouts out to this group creeping through the city fresh, off the PATH Train representing Jersey, doing some shopping.

Word on the street is that they’ve been stopped plenty of times for photos together, and it wasn’t going to stop on this day!  Also peep the last one on their left’s Tumblr here…
